BIO
Angela Snieder is a Canadian visual artist and educator born in Montreal, Quebec and living in Hamilton, Ontario. Angela completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) at York University in Toronto, a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in printmaking at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, and a Bachelor of Education at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.
Through copper etching, photopolymer gravure and lens-based installation, her artistic practice explores the act of looking and its transformative potential, considering the role of attentive perception in shaping our sense of empathy and connection with our environment.
Her recent work takes inspiration from 15th-17th century Dutch and German etchings and engravings, as well as vanitas still lifes and natural history illustrations. Working in the intaglio method, she uses naturalistic drawing techniques to create densely detailed images which are etched into copper plates. Once etched, the copper plates are then inked and hand-printed in limited editions on a traditional etching press.
She has exhibited nationally and internationally, including solo and two-person exhibitions in Toronto, Victoria, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg and Kingston, and group exhibitions at sites across Canada, Poland, China, Egypt, USA, Russia and Finland. She has taught visual art in university and community settings and is currently working as a secondary French teacher.
She most recently participated in a group exhibition (2025) at Titanikas Gallery in Vilnius, Lithuania, alongside 17 other established Canadian printmakers. The Shifting Point: New Expressions in Canadian Printmaking was one of the largest and most significant exhibitions of print work from Canadian artists to be shown in this region.
In May-June 2025, she will be participating in the group exhibition Oh to Believe in Another World: South African—Canadian Collaboration in Print, which brings together a broad selection of artworks made through the process of photogravure including works by Faculty, students, and alumni of the University of Alberta as well as artists from across Canada and South Africa.
