MISTAKEN POINT
January 10 - February 3, 2024 Announcing: MISTAKEN POINT by Angela Snieder & Morgan Wedderspoon at HOOPLA PRESS & GALLERY (@hooplapress2021) with thanks to @canada.council, @st_michaels_printshop & @snapgallery Reception: January 11, 6pm “Everything [there] knows how to be low, how to hug the rock and hunch against the wind. By the time you get to Mistaken Point, you will have already grown accustomed to looking down and looking closely, especially if it happens to be foggy, which is likely. You will also, probably, have had enough experience being buffeted by wind to appreciate the ecosystem’s preference for a horizontal lifestyle.” — Don McKay Building on the ideas of poet Don McKay in his essay Ediacaran and Anthropocene: Poetry as a Reader of Deep Time, MISTAKEN POINT by Angela Snieder and Morgan Wedderspoon is an ongoing print-based collaborative project which plays with the concept of survival in the so-called Anthropocene. It asks what ways of thinking and relating may be vital to sustain life at a time when humankind’s impact on Earth’s systems threatens extinction. |

Angela Snieder: canadianart review by Luther Konadu
Nov 6, 2019 Obscura, Martha Street Studio, Winnipeg (September 6 to October 18, 2019) One of theatre’s true pleasures is that it’s a space defined by a careful orchestration of optics. A desk with a telephone and computer gives the impression of an entire office environment, an actor walking with an opened umbrella suggests the current weather on stage—everyday objects create a realistic illusion through which disbelief is suspended and we slide into the magic of theatre. Photographer Angela Snieder made productive use of this visual immersion in her recent exhibition “Obscura.” - Luther Konadu Click here for full review. |

Angela Snieder: Obscura
MFA Thesis Exhibition Exhibition Dates: February 21 – March 18 Opening Reception: March 2, 2017 FAB Gallery, Edmonton, Alberta How can we think about the relationship between physical and psychological spaces? Obscura explores the possibility that the intersection of the two can foster deeply contemplative experiences, and enable attentive and empathetic consideration of our relationship with the world. Through various photographic and print-based forms, the exhibition proposes that illusion and artifice contribute significantly to both our experiences of space and their conceptualization. |
